Garden Planter Made from Scrap Wood

"If you are anything like me there are always scraps of wood laying around from old DIY projects. I don't like to throw them away because they can be put to good use by building these planter boxes. The design is so simple to follow and it looks great too. It is as simple as cutting your wood to the same size. You just keep adding layers until you get the height that you want. "

Materials List

  • Scrap wood
  • saw
  • sander
  • glue and nails
  • stain and varnish
  • heavy duty plastic

  1. Cut the wood to the size you want your box to be. Sizes available on my website for this planter

  2. Build the square base first using glue or nails secure each piece in place. The first layer is to keep everything from falling out of the bottom.

  3. Next, add some wooden blocks as legs. The planter legs were also off cuts of wood.

  4. the first layer is put down in the shape of a base

  5. Each layer has 2 long pieces of wood and 2 shorter pieces. Glue and nail each layer in place and repeat the pattern until you have the height you want.

  6. Stain the wood and seal with an outdoor or marine varnish.

  7. Using the thick plastic add a layer to the inside of the planter to protect the wood from the moisture.

  8. Add soil and plants and you are done.
