I have made several headboards as well as redoing one from a thrift store. My biggest challenge was making a bookcase headboard. Couldn't afford the $900 prices from a furniture store so I laid out the measurements on graph paper and calculated sizes. Used 1 sheet of birch plywood to build it using glue and dowels to assemble with an occasional brad nail. I finished the edges of the 3/4" ply with the iron-on finishing tape. Learned a few things I would do differently if I make another on. Have used it for over 30 years and it still works. I have done lots of padded headboards for family and friends as well as other home decor projects since I love to sew and work with fabric.
